Hi, I'm Abby and I’m the owner of The BEACHBOX! As I stated before, I have been visiting Holden Beach for nearly 15 years now. It has become a part of my life and holds a place in my heart like no other. Years ago, my friend and neighbor Miss Kay owned a place in the Tanglewood Community here at Holden Beach. She once allowed me to stay at her place for a full week. It was the first time I had been on vacation completely by myself and it was the beginning of the love affair I now have with Holden Beach.
As a child I was very fortunate to go on a family vacation every year. Having had the best grandparents and parents in the world, I have been coast to coast from the Outer Banks in NC to Santa Barbara in California. I turned 21 on the Las Vegas strip and I’ve been to the Jersey shore all the way down to the Bahamas and back. Vacations have always been a huge part of my life. I was 37 years old the first time I visited Holden Beach, and it is still my pick for vacation every year!
I had the pleasure of introducing my Moma, Beverly, to Holden Beach. Like me, she had been to several places on several vacations throughout her life. She had the same immediate love for Holden Beach as I did when she first visited. Before her death in 2020, she often talked about her dream to find an affordable place to purchase here so that we could visit as often as we liked. And like me, she also wanted to give other people the opportunity to fall in love with area, too. I purchased, restored, and am offering the BEACHBOX in memory of my beautiful Moma, Ms. Beverly Jo Durham. (1951-2020)

Finding a place to purchase in the Holden Beach area can be tricky. Holden Beach offers two glorious sides of an island that falls second to none. The ocean front, filled with multi-million-dollar homes that have been featured on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, has the most beautiful beaches and are filled with seashells that include the popular ‘sea biscuits’ and all sizes of ‘shark teeth’. These ocean front houses rent for vacationers at the cool price of $3K to $5K a week and up! You will often see the deer walking unbothered as the human population on the beaches is often very low. The sunrise and the sunset over the beach bring colors to the sky that you would not believe, and the temperature on the beach is always just right. The Intercoastal Waterway side offers the more common side of life. Filled with the waterway boats, the fisherman docks, the local merchants, and those who do not wish to participate in the multi-million-dollar ring. In my time I have paid high dollars for hotel suites, first class airline tickets, cruise ships and vacation rentals with an ocean view. But I found peace and serenity in a single wide mobile home tucked away under the oaks on the intercoastal waterway side of the island. One day I realized that life doesn’t have to be expensive to be great!
